Metabolic Age Calculator
Calculate your Metabolic Age - an indicator of how old your body really is based on your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) compared to the average BMR for your chronological age. A lower metabolic age suggests better metabolic health.
Your Results
Body Fat Percentage | 20.5% |
---|---|
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) | 1,650 calories/day |

Interpretation:
Your metabolic age is younger than your chronological age, which indicates your body is functioning at a more youthful level than expected for your age. This is typically associated with good metabolic health.
About Metabolic Age Calculator
Metabolic age compares your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) to the average BMR for your chronological age group. If your metabolic age is lower than your actual age, it suggests your body is more efficient and "younger" than your chronological age would indicate. Conversely, a higher metabolic age suggests your body is functioning at a level older than your actual age.
How Metabolic Age is Calculated
This calculator determines your metabolic age through the following steps:
- Calculate your BMR using the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation
- Estimate your body fat percentage using the US Navy body fat formula
- Compare your BMR to average BMR values for different age groups
- Determine which age group's average BMR most closely matches your calculated BMR
Body Fat Percentage Formulas
The calculator uses US Navy body fat formulas based on circumference measurements:
- For men: %Fat = 495 / (1.0324 - 0.19077 * log10(waist - neck) + 0.15456 * log10(height)) - 450
- For women: %Fat = 495 / (1.29579 - 0.35004 * log10(waist + hip - neck) + 0.22100 * log10(height)) - 450
Understanding Your Results
Your metabolic age provides insight into your metabolic health:
- Metabolic age = Chronological age: Your metabolism is average for your age
- Metabolic age < Chronological age: Your metabolism is more efficient than average (good)
- Metabolic age > Chronological age: Your metabolism is less efficient than average (needs improvement)
Improving Your Metabolic Age
You can improve your metabolic age through lifestyle changes:
- Exercise regularly: Both aerobic and strength training can boost metabolism
- Build muscle mass: Muscle tissue burns more calories at rest than fat tissue
- Eat a balanced diet: Focus on whole foods, lean proteins, and fiber
- Get enough sleep: Poor sleep can negatively affect metabolism
- Manage stress: Chronic stress can impact metabolic function
