Common Body Types

There are several common body shapes that people generally fall into:

Hourglass

Bust and hip measurements are nearly equal, with a significantly narrower waist. The waist is at least 25% smaller than the bust and hips.

Pear (Triangle)

Hips are wider than bust, with a well-defined waist. The hip measurement is more than 5% larger than the bust measurement.

Apple (Inverted Triangle)

Bust is larger than hips, with less waist definition. The bust measurement is more than 5% larger than the hip measurement.

Rectangle (Straight)

Bust, waist, and hip measurements are similar with little waist definition. The waist is less than 25% smaller than the bust.

Oval (Round)

Waist is larger than bust and hips, with weight carried in the midsection. The waist measurement is larger than both bust and hip measurements.

How to Measure

For accurate results, follow these measurement guidelines:

  1. Bust: Measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape measure parallel to the floor.
  2. Waist: Measure around the narrowest part of your natural waist, usually just above the belly button.
  3. High Hip: Measure around the upper hip bones, about 3-4 inches below the waist.
  4. Hip: Measure around the fullest part of your hips, keeping the tape measure parallel to the floor.

Understanding Your Results

Your body type is determined by comparing the ratios between your bust, waist, and hip measurements. These ratios help classify your shape:
